New York Football Jets Take Brett Favre Interception to the House

October 12th, 2010 No comments

In a Monday Night Football game that will be remembered for a lot of different reasons, the New York Football Jets intercepted a late fourth quarter pass from Brett Favre and return it 26 yards for the game icing touchdown to beat the Minnesota Vikings 29-20. It was pouring rain at times making offense a bit harder for both teams and keeping the score low until late in the game when all hell broke loose and the excitement really started.

The Jets seemed to dominate the Vikings for the first 3 quarters, stifling Adrian Peterson and making Brett Favre look old and lost. The offense of the Jets couldn’t punch it in the end zone and over and over had to settle for Nick Folk field goals, 5 times. But you knew you couldn’t hold Favre down, and he led a frantic comeback connecting with his 500th career touchdown to newly acquired Randy Moss and then twice to Percy Harvin making it an edge of your seat game. But Mark Sanchez, LT, Shonn Greene and the Jets defense were able to pull this game out with help from a sweet kickoff return from secret weapon Brad Smith.

The Vikings are screwed at 1-3, and now face a matchup with another 1-3 team who were equally hyped as Superbowl favorites, the Dallas Cowboys.
The Jets, on the other hand, go to 4-1, take over the outright lead in the AFC East and have shown the world on a national stage during Monday Night Football that they have weapons on offense, defense and special teams.

Oh, and they have a fantastic coaching staff.

FYI, Mark Sanchez has 8 touchdowns on the year and 0 interceptions. Error free football has led to a huge turnover differential for the Jets which has surely contributed to putting them in the envious position of reeling off 4 consecutive victories. Sanchez was plenty aggressive tonight, firing the ball down field on many occasions showing that he has a relatively powerful young arm.

This was a great win for what appears to be a great team playing in front of a great fan base inside a great stadium.

Simply a Pathetic Performance for the Jets

September 14th, 2010 No comments

Opening day with all the high expectations for this year’s NY Jets team came to a crashing reality. I guess I wasn’t the only one who thought that, as hundreds of fans were heading to the exit with four minutes to play, and the Jets losing by 1 point.

The reality, we can’t move the chains, we can’t pass down field, and basically we can’t score points.

Jets Lose 10 – 9 against the Baltimore Ravens. 3 field goals were all that the Jets seemingly more potent offense could muster.

125 yards in penalties kept the Ravens drives alive over and over, with one especially horrid running into the kicker penalty that eventually resulted in the only touchdown of the game.

Sanchez was booed early, and often. At least he didn’t throw any picks or fumble away the game like he usually does.

In the end the Jets had a chance, needing a field goal to win they were driving with less than a minute to go. However, Dustin Kellar decided stopping the clock with a 9.5 yard gain was more important than turning upfield to get the first down. This bonehead play of course happened on 4th down which effectively ended the game by turning the ball over on downs. Simply the worst play of the season so far for the NY Jets, and probably the worst play of the season for all the NFL except Calvin Johnson leaving the ball on the ground in order to begin celebrate was even more boneheaded. Of course the Lions suck and won’t be playing in the playoffs anyway, but if the Jets keep sucking like this they won’t be worried about the playoffs either.

With all of the offseason talk, the Jets are 0-1, and with Tom Brady and Patriots in town this week we could be 0-2 and on our way to a disappointing season. For reals, scoring 3 field goals is not gonna cut it against the Patriots even with our defense playing great.

I don’t know what to say, I want to rant and rant about how pathetic we looked yesterday, how abysmal our offensive play calling was and why the %#@& was wide receiver Braylon Edwards on the special teams punt receiving unit yesterday so that he could inexplicably run as fast as he could into the punter to begin with.

Opening Day of the 2010 NY Jets Football Season

Someone famous once said, “Let’s Get It On” and on and on it will be as the 2010 New York Jets open thier season amongst a sell out crowd in their brand new stadium on…

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Now their opponents the Baltimore Ravens are no slouch, with many of the idiotic talking heads projecting the Ravens as Superbowl bound, but hopefully on this day Revis Island and the Jets D can put those thoughts on ice.

Jets are stacked, as much as we have ever been. Obviously, we have something special and entertaining in Head Coach Rex Ryan. So much that he can convince players to get on board the Jets en route to his proclaimed Superbowl bound flight. LT, Jason Taylor, Santonio Holmes and Antonio Cromartie are just a few of the big name new faces we will see tonight, well not Holmes who smoked his way to a 4 game suspension.

Offensive Line looks as good as ever, execpt for the BIG hole at left tackle, but who needs to block the Sanchise’s blindside anyway. Defensively we have big names that will hopefully lead us to another top defensive year.

And we got Sanchise. Who people knock at every opportunity for inadvertantly throwing to the wrong colored jerseys way too often. But he was a rookie, and now as a seasoned veteran – ok thats a stretch – hopefully he will surprise those expecting a sophomore slump like he surprised those who said rookies can’t win playoff games.

I went to the liberty of asking my friend his take on the game, and not to my surprise he of course chose to pick the ‘nevermores’ over the Jets during the opening day game. Here I share his thoughts:

I’ve been running hot in football so here are my picks for the 2 games tonight. All lines are as of when I write this.

Baltimore (+1.5) AT NY Jets

This is going to be ugly, as Flacco is dealing with new receiving corp, and Derrick Mason and Heap are still going to gouge the Jets in the playaction game. Which means Ray Rice will killing it. But, the Jets D is good so killing it will be 70 to 80 yds for him, and 20 points as team. Holding calls and 2 picks by Sanchez are going to doom the D on a possession, as field position is going to be key. The B’More offense will be unspectacular as well, but a little more cohesive. I have Shonn Greene in the fumble pool for this one.

20-16 Ravens (with a 40% chance of Ravens blowout)

Good thing he gets 80% of his picks wrong

New York’s Defense is Something and Oakland’s Black Hole gets Nothing

Revenge game against Oakland. Remember last year,

Oct 19 2008 NYJ 13 @ OAK 16 61,901

Well This Year it was different.

Oct 25 2009 NYJ 38 @ OAK 0 39,354

Most striking here is how dysfunctional the Oakland Raiders have become that their own fans don’t support the team. The only television black out in the NFL this week was Oakland verse New York. Over 20,000 fans less this year. Oakland’s owner gets a beating in the media, but recently has looked good with the circus the owner in Washington has created.

btw, why are we not flex scheduling Monday Night Football already. The Monday nights up till now have been great but this weeks matchup of Washington and Philadelphia was not a great idea.

Anyway,

Shonn Greene ran wild as the replacement for the injured Leon Washington. Two touchdown runs and way over a 100 yards. The Jets are now ranked as the number 1 rushing team in the NFL. We need to run it down Miami’s throat next week.

Mark Sanchez had a good game rushing for a touchdown. Seems he read FootballJets.com after the Miami debacle as we mentioned he should use his feet more.  A rushing touchdown is as good as a throwing touchdown Mark, if the defense is giving it to you then just walk it in. Sanchez also threw for a touchdown to David Clowney, a 35 yard pass that was David Clowney’s first NFL touchdown something not updated in Wikipedia.

The real story was the defense.

It took only a few minutes and the Jets defense had intercepted Oakland Raiders quarterback Jamarcus Russell twice setting up two easy touchdowns. 4 turnovers on the day for Oakland kept the Jets on the field and the few fans at the game taking off the silver face plant during halftime.

Monday Night Football Dolphins Win & Jets Lose

October 14th, 2009 No comments
Miami Dolphins 31 New York Jets 27 in an instant classic in the Miami verse New York rivalry.
This football game was a Monday Night masterpiece with back and forth lead changes in the fourth quarter with both vertical passing and a variety of running plays by both teams.
In the end, the Dolphins used the so called wildcat formation to run in on third and goal to take the lead with just 6 seconds remaining in the game. Several key third down conversions on that drive and during the entire game kept the Dolphins wildcat on the field all game long.
Chad Henne looked brilliant. Chad Henne has been a starter for two weeks and we make him look like Joe Montana.
The defense.
The Jets defense looked bad, Like on your heels bad. Like negative 1 fantasy points bad. All game it felt like we needed one stop, and that stop never came. I hardly remember any great defensive plays all game, except possibly Kris Jenkins up the middle rush to break up a play in the backfield and goal line stop on 2nd down during the Dolphins game winning drive.
This defense is so good but where are the interceptions, fumbles and sacks?
Braylon Edwards.
Braylon Edwards is a beast and probably one of the best in season additions for any team in recent memory. Edwards showed great hands during several clutch receptions. Most impressive was Edwards ability to get vertical to make a catch and his hand strength in holding onto some balls he had to fight for against the defensive backs of Miami.
Mark Sanchez.
Mark Sanchez made some throws that were so precise and well timed that Jets fans have to feel blessed that we have such a young talent. Against the Dolphins, Sanchez may not have put up gaudy numbers, but his opportunities were limited due to the emphasis on the running game by both teams eating up the clock. Though when he did drop back to pass his accuracy was very good including a couple of deep throws. Mark Sanchez also showed his cool in the fourth quarter leading two touchdown scoring drives and at the end of the half leading to a go-ahead field goal. Mark Sanchez did enough to win this game with everyone on the offense contributing. If you only were to watch the offense you would have thought the Jets won by a comfortable margin because you would expect the one of the NFL’s best defenses to have held the Dolphins very average offense to at most a few scores.
