It was gross, and frankly it has been hard to want to write about it. The it I am referring to was the abysmal beat down the Green Bay Packers handed to our New York Jets in a 9-0 shutout. To make matters worse, the shutout happened at home in front of a crowd who had been waiting all through the bye week to see if we could get to 6-1, instead the Jets fall to 5-2 and now are looking up at the 6-1 New England Patriots in the AFC east.

This was the first shutout in the entire NFL this season. Good, no great teams are supposed to always win coming off a bye week. With an extra week to prepare, an extra week to rest and an extra week to add some new plays to the playbook the Jets should of been better than the 9 dropped passes, multiple-turnover, special team snafuing, and quarterback looking rusty team that stepped onto the field on Sunday.

Give the Packers credit, they are banged up but they put out a great effort. Give the Jets defense credit, they kept us in the game until the very end. But this was all about the ineffectiveness of the Jets.

Seemingly we did a few things wrong. First, we tried to become a more pass heavy team, nearly abandoning the run altogether on most possessions or using it as an afterthought. Also the major blunder this week was trying to do too many new, cute plays that weren’t part of the Jets normal game plan. Getting back to the formula of running more to set up the pass will be the key to getting us back in the win column.

Next up is the Detroit Lions. The Lions have a porous defense, but their offense puts up numbers scoring one of the highest averages in the NFC. This is a game everyone had circled as a W for the Jets at the beginning of the season, and winning it will put a stamp on a very, very successful first half of the Jets season by making us 6-2 which would put us in a great position coming down the stretch run.

2009 NFL season starts today with the defending Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers playing the Tennessee Titans. The New York Football Jets open their season on Sunday at the Houston Texans.

Football Jets would like to make some fearless predictions that hopefully won’t be so wrong I will still have some credibility left after the season.

In the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers and the Indianapolis Colts appear to be the teams on top of their respective divisions come playoff time. For the wild card, the New York Jets will join the Tennessee Titans.

In the NFC, the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and the New Orleans Saints are my season predictions for winning their respective divisions. Joining them in the playoffs I predict will be wild card teams the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears.

That leaves out some serious contenders like the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins.

Playoff predictions are tough, but lets go with the San Diego Chargers upsetting the Pittsburgh Steelers after beating the New England Patriots and the New York Jets rolling over the Indianapolis Colts after beating the Tennessee Titans. The New York Jets would have to win another difficult road game in San Diego, but beating the Chargers in the playoffs is something the Jets have done before.

In the NFC, the New York Giants take out the Arizona Cardinals before losing to the Minnesota Vikings. The New Orleans Saints offense takes out the Chicago Bears defense and then shocks the world with a win in Philadelphia. The Vikings prove to strong for the Saints on both sides of the ball and advance to the Superbowl.

Minnesota Vikings verse the New York Jets. In an amazing year for rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, the New York Jets somehow pull out a victory over Brett Favre and company in one of the greatest Superbowls in history.
