New England Patriots verse New York Jets

October 14th, 2011 No comments

…and the winner is… the New England Patriots.

The fallout is…Derrick Mason gets traded to Houston for a couple of used tackling dummies and a draft pick to be named later.

The Jets defense right now is not very good, and though they held Tom Brady relatively in check, the Patriots running game was pounding on them all night long.

The Jets are 2-3, getting kicked on by the national media while Brian Schottenheimer is getting ripped indirectly by players and directly by just about everyone else.

At least the Jets have a chance to cure all that ails them against a Miami Dolphins team that has not won a game all season and may be on the verge of going all-in in the suck for Luck (Standford Quarterback) draft pick sweepstakes. Monday Night will be a big game, because if the Jets fall to 2-4 their playoff chances will be crushed, but at 3-3 they would be in the middle of things and be primed for a better second half.

2011 New York Jets Season

September 4th, 2011 No comments

The 2011 New York Jets season is finally here. After the lockout and the crazy free agency period the games are on and the NFL is ready to entertain us every week for months. The Jets are living the high profile life right now. People everywhere are talking about them, of course that is almost automatic when you have Rex Ryan as head coach, but still people everywhere are putting the Jets in the conversation as possible champions.

And why wouldn’t they? The Jets have won 4 playoff road games the past two seasons, they have competitive AFC Championship games, they boast one of the leagues best defenses and they of course have a throng of high profile players.

One of those high profile names was the free agent acquisition of Plaxico Burress. Here is where I throw out the lame joke, “I hope the Jets didn’t shoot themselves in the foot” with this signing. Opinions vary widely on what will be Plaxico’s production during the 2011 Jets season but he did make a high-light reel catch during the pre-season but he is 3 years removed from making his last touchdown catch, albeit it was a Superbowl winning touchdown catch.

Most of the other big names are back again with LT, Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes powering the offense and Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Bart Scott locking down what could possibly be the NFL’s best defense. The defense finished ranked third in the league last year which followed the number one ranking during Rex Ryan’s rookie year as head coach. The offense can at times look great, and at times look very pedestrian. This has been the case with the offense throughout the preseason and pretty much throughout the Mark Sanchez era. Sanchez is young though, most third year quarterbacks are just getting their first opportunity to start in year three, Mark Sanchez has already tied the NFL record for most playoff victories by a quarterback.

So the 2011 New York Jets season will be exciting. The New England Patriots are going to be very good again, the Buffalo Bills should be vastly improved, and the Miami Dolphins… well let’s just say Tony Sparano has done a magnificent job keeping the Dolphins mediocre – which has been an absolute delight to see for New York Jets fans.

As for my 2011 New York Jets season prediction I am going to concur with Head Coach Rex Ryan and say that the Jets are going to the Superbowl.

Jets Epic Victory Over Patriots

January 16th, 2011 No comments

The New York Jets had an epic victory at the expense of their most hated rivals, the New England Patriots. Rex Ryan made it personal between him and Bill Belichick and on this day he out coached him by a wide margin. The Jets defense dominated this game and Mark Sanchez had a magical performance throwing three touchdowns.

28-21. A score for the ages, in what is according to Rex Ryan the second biggest game in franchise history. The fact is, this next game against the Steelers will push this win to third, because the game against the Steelers is for the right to go to the Superbowl in Dallas.

Talking smack is cool now! With this being a copycat league, won’t the Rex Ryan and New York Jets players smack talk become the ‘in’ thing to do in the NFL?

Pretty boy Tom Brady is starting to lose his charm after two years straight of being knocked out of the playoffs in their first game, both at home. But tonight, new stars of the AFC shown brightly.

LT played another heck of a game,  scoring his third touchdowns in the playoffs.

Shonn Greene had a heck of a game, running for the score that broke open the game late.

Santonio Holmes made a historic, epic reception in the corner of the endzone, then got his two feet in bounds a split second before landing out of bounds. Holmes once before made an immaculate catch, a pass from Big Ben while playing for Pittsburgh in the Superbowl. That day he won the game for them, and tonight his incredibly difficult touchdown catch adds to his legacy of making the biggest plays at the biggest moments.

Jets Defense played so well, frustrating Brady,  sacking him several times, forcing fumbles, producing some hard hits time and again, and catching a game changing interception early on.  Smith, Scott, Ellis, Revis and Cromartie amongst others had amazing performances. This was a total team effort, and truly the Jets defense stepped up.

Jerricho  Cotchery had a huge catch and run that was so timely.

Braylon Edwards had a huge catch that got Sanchez in a groove.

Mark Sanchez again played great. 4 playoff wins in his first 2 seasons. This kid played at an ultra high level. The offensive line protected him well and gave him time to make some fantastic decisions and throws.

The Offensive Line played strong, allowing the Jets running backs the opportunity to gain yards repeatedly by running the football.

The coaches coached great. From exceptional special teams, to the variety of offensive play calls, to the perfect mixture of defensive blitzes and strong pass coverage choices the New York Jets coaching staff did a fantastic job.

The list of great performances today goes on and on. This was a total team effort.

Jets Verse Patriots 2011 Playoff Game

January 16th, 2011 No comments

The New York Jets verse the New England Patriots game in Foxborough on Sunday, January 16, 2011 is one of the most historic games in franchise history. The Jets are made to win now, and this win would be monumental.

Pittsburgh awaits the winner for the right to go to the Superbowl in Dallas.

Lets Go Jets!

This game is gonna be epic. I know we have what it takes to win this game.

J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets!

Jets Embarrassed on Monday Night Football by New England Patriots

December 15th, 2010 No comments

The 45-3 Monday Night Football game against the New England Patriots shows the Jets have some real issues.

Defensively, offensively, special teams, coaching and probably the water boy had their worst game of the season. This happened all at the same time with 12 yard punts, decisions to kick into the wind from 53 yards away, to Sanchez throwing passes to Patriot defenders just standing there waiting for the ball. Add to that, receivers dropping passes, the running game stuck in neutral and our defensive secondary just being brutally beat by 2nd and 3rd tier receivers and rookie tight ends.

This game was a disaster for the Jets, but playing on the road in New England is never easy and it is now looking likely that the Patriots will win the AFC East the Jets may end up playing them in the playoffs, in New England.

Buffalo Bills Suck

October 3rd, 2010 No comments

The 38-14 thrashing of the Buffalo Bills by the New York Jets doesn’t say a whole lot about how good the Jets are as a team.

What it does say is that the Buffalo Bills Suck.

Honestly, we already kinda new the Buffalo Bills Suck but the Jets exposed them in every aspect of their suckiness. Their offense was pathetic, with their quarterback scrambling for 74 yards the only positive yardage they seemed to muster all game. Their defense couldn’t come even close to stopping the constantly improving offensive juggernaut which has become the Mark Sanchez led Jets offense. Even the Buffalo Bills special teams sucked.

The NY Jets won 2 games in the division last year, so far we have won all 3 games in the division this year. Mark Sanchez has 8 touchdown passes on the season and 0 interceptions. LT and Shonn Greene both ran for over 100 yards, with LT scoring two touchdowns.  Secret weapon Brad Smith did his usual thing and Dustin Kellar caught two touchdowns for the second week in a row.

The NY Jets blew up the New England Patriots
The NY Jets blew up the Miami Dolphins
The NY Jets blew up the Buffalo Bills

Who in the AFC East is gonna compete? We know the Buffalo Bills Suck with their 0-4 record, and despite giving both Miami and New England a run for their money in games earlier in the season the Bills might end up with 0 wins. With the Dolphins playing the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football on October 4 the contender and pretender in the division will be revealed.

Okay, so the Buffalo Bills suck, but that doesn’t mean this wasn’t a good win for the Jets. The Jets are getting a lot of attention from the media as being one of the premier teams in the AFC. Indianapolis lost to Jacksonville today, and Jacksonville is horrible so Peyton Manning’s squad is no longer as big a bully as it once was. Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Houston appear to be the other NFL cities with quality teams that through a quarter of the season appear to be playoff caliber.

Even though the Buffalo Bills Suck it is still awesome to watch our NY Football Jets play this well in all facets of the game. The offense can move the ball and has plenty of weapons.  Now we get to add Santonio Holmes to the mix, and if you don’t know how good a Superbowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes is than you are in for a pleasant surprise. With Braylon Edwards catching another touchdown today, we will now have two awesome wide receivers. Jerricho Cotchery can move to the slot where he will be more effective and with Dustin Kellar playing the tight end position at the level he is the Jets have one of the best passing attacks in the NFL. Add to that two great running backs, a young improving quarterback, a great defense, a brilliant defensive minded head coach, a talented offensive coordinator in Brian Schottenheimer and some wrinkles like Brad Smith the NY Jets management have put together a title contender.

Today was a nice win even though the Buffalo Bills Suck, but let us focus on a huge game coming up as we have Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings next weekend.

Talk the Talk and Walk the Walk

September 19th, 2010 No comments

The Jets 28-14 absolute thrashing of the New England Patriots was awesome.

Tom Brady said he hates the Jets. Guess what, the Jets and their legion of fans hate New England and Tom Brady.
I know I am sick of the

Oh Brady is so perfect, he has the perfect wife, the perfect looks, the perfect passes.

Give me a break you Brady loving media. I know you media types are all upset, with now having to throw out those pre-written articles about the big talking arrogance of the Jets team, the fraternity house coaching style of Rex Ryan and the Mark Sanchez shows so little promise.
You were all wrong. And now you have to write the TRUTH! Can’t handle the TRUTH! Well, here it is for you. The Jets are for real, their quarterback is for real, LT still has plenty of game, the offensive and defensive lines can push people around, the Jets secondary isn’t only Revis Island and the head coach and offensive coordinator have real game plans that give this team a great chance to win every week.

Now that you have thrown away those bury the Jets articles, consider recycling them next time for another team whose headlines catch readers, the Dallas Cowboys.

Now break out the creativity in your thrashing of the New England Patriots whom you were so eager to dub AFC East champions after one lousy week in which they beat a team the Jets knocked out of the playoffs last year. Here are some headlines to start the thought process…

Tom Brady is Great… Against Bad Defenses

Bill Belichick is Great… When He is Able to Cheat

Randy Moss and Tom Brady Look Great… When Sulking Together on the Bench Late in the 4th Quarter

Jets D Shuts Out Patriots So Called High Powered Offense in 2nd Half… Without Revis

Mark Sanchez Leads the Jets to Victory with 3 Touchdowns… Looks Like a Potential Superbowl Winning Quarterback

Next Week’s Game is Huge… Dolphins Verse Jets for the AFC East Lead

JETS have HEARTbeat

December 14th, 2009 No comments

WOOHOO! Jets Nation we are now going to be playing meaningful December football games.

A month ago we were 4-6 and lamenting our bad luck as lifelong Jets fans all the while enduring being once again the butt of jokes from those not bleeding the green.

Guess who’s laughing now.

At 7-6 the Jets are in the playoff hunt. Wildcard and Division titles are within our sights, with only 3 games to play. The Dolphins join us at 7-6 and we are both only 1 game behind the 8-5 Patriots for the AFC East division. FYI the Dolphins would hold the tiebreaker over us if it came down to that.  The Wildcard is certainly wild after both the 7-6 Jaguars and 8-5 Broncos lost this week. The 7-6 Ravens big win put them in the wild mix as well. So 5 teams, four at 7-6 and one at 8-5, are fighting for two wildcard playoff spots.

Compared to the other four teams, the Jets have the biggest hill to climb because they pretty much don’t hold any tie breakers and have arguably the toughest schedule going forward. Atlanta, Indianapolis, and Cincinnati is not going to be any kind of piece of cake.  The chance of winning all three is a daunting task, but the Jets momentum from their dominating 26-3 victory on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be helpful. On the bright side, Atlanta is reeling and have a back up quarterback, Indianapolis has clinched home field advantage and could be resting players (Peyton Manning) and the Bengals offense can be shut down.

The 26-3 win in Tampa was a mix of Kellen Clemens managing a game as Mark Sanchez’s replacement, Thomas Jones running wild and The NUMBER 1 DEFENSE in the NFL doing what The NUMBER 1 DEFENSE in the NFL do shutting down opponents. In fact, the admittedly pathetic Tampa Bay offense didn’t get their first first down until the third quarter, and even that was after a personal foul penalty against the Jets defense.

OK, I hope I am not getting my hopes up to high, but I like our chances. The best defense in the league and a running game, that definitely spells possibilities. Let’s take this one game at a time.

Go Jets.

Belicheat’s Patriots Intercept Sanchise Grounding the Jets

November 26th, 2009 No comments

We have to keep telling ourselves Mark Sanchez is just a rookie.

The problem is we were so caught up in the USC quarterback hype, the out of the gate 3 game win streak and the Sanchise that we seemed to have forgotten that Mark was just a rookie. Sanchez started just one season at USC. Basically he lacks experience and his learning on the job is giving him the experience he needs.

But wow, after that third game the defense and the running game made all of Jets Nation think that maybe, just maybe the stars were aligned and the Jets were going to do something special this season. Amazing things happen in sports all the time, and it just seemed like this was the Jets time.

At 4-6 and with Mark throwing 4 more interceptions against the New England Patriots this is obvious not the Jets time.

Bill Belichick and the Patriots Collapse

October 12th, 2009 No comments

A two score lead was not enough for the New England Patriots to beat the upstart Denver Broncos. The ex-assistant coach under Belichick made his old master his bitch by winning the game. Broncos Coach Josh McDaniel then proceeded to celebrate by Incredible Hulk style ripping off his shirt and jubilantly giving high-fives to the entire locker room. Almost Jets Coach Rex Ryan-esque energy, enthusiasm, cockiness, and trash talking abilities. This was obviously not just another game.

Josh McDaniel Celebrates Beating Bill Belichick

Meanwhile, the old Bill Belichick put on that usual scour as he ran off the field after the overtime field goal by the Broncos sailed through the upright to the delight of a huge crowd in Colorado. You know he was pissed that Quarterback Kyle Orton outplayed Tom Brady. You know he was pissed his one time prodigy Coach McDaniel just beat him on national television. You know he was pissed the Jets can take a lead in the AFC East Division by beating the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.

In other related news of AFC East foes struggling: The Buffalo Bills lost a game 6-3. Three points is a pretty piss poor performance, expect Terrell Owens not to be smiling anytime soon and his mouth to begin singing at any moment.
