Tim Tebow Game Winning Rushing Touchdown Broncos Beat Jets

November 18th, 2011 No comments

The 2011 New York Jets just added to the Tim Tebow legacy. In spectacular fashion the one and only savior for Denver Broncos football fans came through for them again in an astonishing 95 yard drive in the fourth quarter capped off by a 20 yard Tim Tebow touchdown run virtually untouched into the endzone with less than a minute left to lead his team to a 17-13 win in front of his home crowd.

Mark Sanchez threw one touchdown pass in the game, unfortunately it was thrown to one of the players wearing a Broncos uniform. The obvious turning point in the game the pick six allowed the Broncos to tie the game at 10-10 and help set the stage for another Tim Tebow fourth quarter comeback. In his first 5 starts at quarterback, he has 4 wins.

Meanwhile the Jets playoffs chances are slim and none following this loss. Even Las Vegas bookies had the Jets at almost a touchdown favorite on the road. And why not, you would think if the Jets allowed the Broncos offense to score only 10 points the Jets would muster up enough offense to easily beat that. Of course you always have to consider Sanchez possibly throwing his 3rd pick six interception touchdown of the season.

Fans seem upset with Mark Sanchez’s inconsistent play. 11 straight completed passes tonight. Still manages to find the most inopportune time to turn the ball over. Offensive line has not helped him, running back injuries do not help either, play calling by the offensive coordinator is often questioned, but in the end you need to be good enough to at least beat the Denver Broncos in a game that just needs to be won in order to save your season.

At 5-5 the Jets are going to have to go on one of those improbable runs in order to make the playoffs. They can at best go 11-5, but even losing one gives them a 10-6 record and that record is only sometimes good enough to make the playoffs. They are a streaky team, but 5-1 down the stretch is a tall order, so I am guessing their actual playoff chances percentage wise would be at most 15%, and that is probably being generous. Again, it is hard to understand how Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos defense were able to make the Jets look so bad, but the at least the Jets can now always be highlighted throughout Tebow’s career with that game winning rushing touchdown that allowed the Broncos football savior to conquer the Jets in front of a capacity crowd and broadcast nationally on television. Tim Tebow magic on Thursday Night Football.

Jets Get Manhandled by Ravens Defense

October 2nd, 2011 No comments

The 2-2 NY Jets are in the midst of a tough stretch of games which will probably determine their season. The next month or so of games is full of match-ups against 3-1 teams, with the exception being the gimme game against the Miami Dolphins, who after starting the season 0-4 are in prime position for the Suck for Luck sweepstakes.

On national Sunday Night in America prime time television, the NY Jets got manhandled by the Baltimore Ravens defense. Poor protection led to Mark Sanchez getting harassed all night long. Sanchez basically handed the ball to the Ravens on several occasions which they gladly ran in for touchdowns.

Really, the Jets offense was embarrassing, which seems to always be the case against top tier defenses. Though, the defense and special teams managed to put points on the board, the offense allowed the Ravens defense to put 21 points on the board. Considering the Jets scored 17 points total, allowing three return touchdowns is certainly not a recipe for success.

Lots of issues existed tonight with several dropped passes, Shonne Greene runs that range from a loss of two to a gain of two, Mark Sanchez holding the ball for too long, Mark Sanchez making poor decisions, and offensive line that without Nick Mangold (injured) is below average at best.

Jets used to be formidable on the road, but in back to back weeks the Jets have lost away games against Oakland and Baltimore, and have to travel to New England next week for a game that is important for the Jets for many reasons, such as the need to avoid falling into the list of teams with losing records. Beating the Jacksonville Jaguars was a nice win, beating the Dallas Cowboys was an exciting, improbable comeback win, but the poor defense in Oakland and the poor offense in Baltimore has this team showing that certain game plans can beat them on one side of the ball.

This inconsistent play has the Jets at 2-2, and in desperate need of a win in New England this coming Sunday. Go Jets, bounce back Mark, Defense we are going to need you to make a couple of game changing plays, and that goes for you too special teams.

New York Jets Come From Behind Victory Over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football

September 11th, 2011 No comments

The Opening Weekend of NFL Football was simply incredible with many upsets and breakout performances. The excitement climaxed on Sunday Night Football where the New York Jets on the Tenth Anniversary of 9-11 had one of the most amazing come from behind victories over the Dallas Cowboys winning 27-24.

This game was emotional. The Jets took off a little slow out of the gates, but then the fourth quarter arrived and the New York Jets behind the energy of 80,000 loud fans made play after play on offense, defense and on special teams to win a game that looked out of reach.

Nick Folk 50 yard field goal gave the Jets the 3 point lead with less than a minute to play. Kicker Nick Folk made the biggest kick in his career, taking avenge on the team that cut him a few years ago.

Mark Sanchez threw for over 300 yards and never quit after making a couple of mistakes. The quarterback Mark Sanchez found different receivers in crucial situations and made just enough plays to pull out the epic win over Rob Ryan’s highly touted defense.

Rex Ryan defense gave up a couple long scoring drives early in the game, but then they got comfortable and put a ton of pressure on Dallas Cowboy Quarterback Tony Romo.  The special teams and the defense decided the game by making some tremendous second half plays. Brian Schottenheimer was steadily aggressive calling pass after pass and only sprinkling in the occasional run. The aggressiveness payed off when the Cowboys secondary was injured and worn down allowing Jets receivers to find openings and opportunities that they took advantage of over and over.

Special Teams of the Jets came up with the biggest plays of the game. The blocked punt return for touchdown made the entire stadium go bonkers. Then Nick Folk drilled the kick of his life to send the Jets into the win column.

Jets Defense by many players including stars Bart Scott and Darrelle Revis. Linebacker Bart Scott pressured Romo and had some huge tackles. Corner back Darrelle Revis made the interception late which set-up the game winning field goal. Romo had the lead and the Cowboys were in the driver seat. However, the pressure of the moment forced Romo to make mistakes, and the Jets capitalized in the biggest way.

Ladainian Tomlinson was making plays including many huge first downs by catching Mark Sanchez passes in the flat and finding the first down chains and doing whatever it took to get past the chains. In reality the stars of the Jets all seemed to make plays.

Plaxico Burress was quite in the first half and then he made his return to the NFL memorable. With several catches on the game none were bigger than the Mark Sanchez to Plaxico Burress touchdown pass down the sideline.

Jim Leonard who ran all the way down the field and made a game changing tackle that preceded the Tony Romo goal line fumble that ignited the comeback.

New York Jets Come From Behind Victory Over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, just had to repeat the title because this win was something special on a truly special day in American History. God Bless America and thank you to all the men and women who lost their lives saving others on that unforgettable day ten years ago. The NY Police Department, NY Fire Department, First Responders and all those who lost their lives  you will all, forever, be in our hearts.

2011 New York Jets Season

September 4th, 2011 No comments

The 2011 New York Jets season is finally here. After the lockout and the crazy free agency period the games are on and the NFL is ready to entertain us every week for months. The Jets are living the high profile life right now. People everywhere are talking about them, of course that is almost automatic when you have Rex Ryan as head coach, but still people everywhere are putting the Jets in the conversation as possible champions.

And why wouldn’t they? The Jets have won 4 playoff road games the past two seasons, they have competitive AFC Championship games, they boast one of the leagues best defenses and they of course have a throng of high profile players.

One of those high profile names was the free agent acquisition of Plaxico Burress. Here is where I throw out the lame joke, “I hope the Jets didn’t shoot themselves in the foot” with this signing. Opinions vary widely on what will be Plaxico’s production during the 2011 Jets season but he did make a high-light reel catch during the pre-season but he is 3 years removed from making his last touchdown catch, albeit it was a Superbowl winning touchdown catch.

Most of the other big names are back again with LT, Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes powering the offense and Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Bart Scott locking down what could possibly be the NFL’s best defense. The defense finished ranked third in the league last year which followed the number one ranking during Rex Ryan’s rookie year as head coach. The offense can at times look great, and at times look very pedestrian. This has been the case with the offense throughout the preseason and pretty much throughout the Mark Sanchez era. Sanchez is young though, most third year quarterbacks are just getting their first opportunity to start in year three, Mark Sanchez has already tied the NFL record for most playoff victories by a quarterback.

So the 2011 New York Jets season will be exciting. The New England Patriots are going to be very good again, the Buffalo Bills should be vastly improved, and the Miami Dolphins… well let’s just say Tony Sparano has done a magnificent job keeping the Dolphins mediocre – which has been an absolute delight to see for New York Jets fans.

As for my 2011 New York Jets season prediction I am going to concur with Head Coach Rex Ryan and say that the Jets are going to the Superbowl.

Jets Epic Victory Over Patriots

January 16th, 2011 No comments

The New York Jets had an epic victory at the expense of their most hated rivals, the New England Patriots. Rex Ryan made it personal between him and Bill Belichick and on this day he out coached him by a wide margin. The Jets defense dominated this game and Mark Sanchez had a magical performance throwing three touchdowns.

28-21. A score for the ages, in what is according to Rex Ryan the second biggest game in franchise history. The fact is, this next game against the Steelers will push this win to third, because the game against the Steelers is for the right to go to the Superbowl in Dallas.

Talking smack is cool now! With this being a copycat league, won’t the Rex Ryan and New York Jets players smack talk become the ‘in’ thing to do in the NFL?

Pretty boy Tom Brady is starting to lose his charm after two years straight of being knocked out of the playoffs in their first game, both at home. But tonight, new stars of the AFC shown brightly.

LT played another heck of a game,  scoring his third touchdowns in the playoffs.

Shonn Greene had a heck of a game, running for the score that broke open the game late.

Santonio Holmes made a historic, epic reception in the corner of the endzone, then got his two feet in bounds a split second before landing out of bounds. Holmes once before made an immaculate catch, a pass from Big Ben while playing for Pittsburgh in the Superbowl. That day he won the game for them, and tonight his incredibly difficult touchdown catch adds to his legacy of making the biggest plays at the biggest moments.

Jets Defense played so well, frustrating Brady,  sacking him several times, forcing fumbles, producing some hard hits time and again, and catching a game changing interception early on.  Smith, Scott, Ellis, Revis and Cromartie amongst others had amazing performances. This was a total team effort, and truly the Jets defense stepped up.

Jerricho  Cotchery had a huge catch and run that was so timely.

Braylon Edwards had a huge catch that got Sanchez in a groove.

Mark Sanchez again played great. 4 playoff wins in his first 2 seasons. This kid played at an ultra high level. The offensive line protected him well and gave him time to make some fantastic decisions and throws.

The Offensive Line played strong, allowing the Jets running backs the opportunity to gain yards repeatedly by running the football.

The coaches coached great. From exceptional special teams, to the variety of offensive play calls, to the perfect mixture of defensive blitzes and strong pass coverage choices the New York Jets coaching staff did a fantastic job.

The list of great performances today goes on and on. This was a total team effort.

The AFC Championship Game against Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh for the right to go to the Superbowl in Dallas.

Jets 1 of 3 NFL Week 9 Overtime Winners

November 8th, 2010 No comments

The New York Jets improbable, come from behind victory over the Detroit Lions in Detroit may be the biggest moment of the Jets season since, well since they got that pass interference call against the Denver Broncos a few weeks ago.

Seriously, the Jets punted with a little over 7 minutes to play in the fourth quarter and down by 10 points. At that point, down by two scores and without the ball, the Jets had no business winning this game. But the defense held, got the ball back for the heroic Mark Sanchez to use the hurry up offense and put the Lions defense on their heels. With his QB sneak with 2:46 to play closing the gap to 3 points, the Jets were still a long shot to tie. Opting against the onside kick, the Jets kicked long and held the Lions forcing a punt. Sanchez would direct the offense down the field and folk hero for the Jets, Nick Folk would kick a game tying field goal as time expired. Then in overtime, the Jets won the coin toss and with a long pass from Sanchez to Santonio Holmes, the folk hero again would add to his short, but increasingly impressive folk legend by kicking the game winner in overtime.

That is what happened. And it is almost hard to believe how everything worked out so well. There was not enough time for anything to not work out, it was just one of those series of moments that make a team an NFL best 6-2 instead of a middle of the pack 5-3.

Right now, the New York Jets are loving life. Winning a road game against an improving Detroit Lions team in dramatic fashion has to be exhilarating and watching the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins get whooped on has helped big time in the AFC east race.

The bottom line is this:

  • The defense is clearly one of the NFL’s best
  • Mark Sanchez is greatly improved
  • Skill players at the skill positions are really skilled
  • LT has re-emerged as one of the NFL’s best running backs, pass catching backs, and blocking backs
  • Nick Folk has turned around his career after his tumultuous season with the Dallas Cowboys last year
  • Rex Ryan is viewed in a positive light around the league, because his bravado-esque swagger is backed up by intelligence
  • Ownership and the front office has done a great job assembling a terrific team
  • Offense and Defensive lines are above average in the NFL

The Jets next game is vs. Cleveland, who normally would be chalked up as an easy Win but they just embarrassed Tom Brady and the Patriots by powerful running and coming-of-age play by rookie quarterback Colt McCoy.

LaDainian Tomlinson is Awesome as Referee Lets Jets Win Broncos Lose

October 18th, 2010 No comments

LaDainian Tomlinson was a big offseason addition to the New York Jets, and that is an understatement. Most of the pundits said he was washed up, couldn’t run with power or cut with precision, lacked speed, lost a step, was no longer an effective out of the backfield receiver and was a menace in the locker room.

Like is often the case, the talking heads do not know anything. They hear something said by one talking head and they just repeat it and repeat it. The Jets front office and Coach Rex Ryan knew they were getting not only one of the all-time great running backs, but LaDainian Tomlinson was surely not washed up, had something to prove, could still run over people while making ankle breaking cuts, still had breakaway speed, could catch even the errant Mark Sanchez pass out of the backfield and would be a leader in the locker room.

On Sunday, as LaDainian Tomlinson has done all season long, he showed the Denver Broncos all of the good as he helped the New York Jets beat the Denver Broncos and their smug young coach Josh McDaniels 24-20 in Denver. I’ll give Josh McDaniels this, I loved his celebration last year when the Broncos beat the Patriots which really pissed off Coach Bill Belichick

The game was not the Jets best, with Mark Sanchez throwing a couple interceptions and many other passes that should have been intercepted. The defense and Darrelle Revis were not at their best allowing the Broncos league worst running game to finally appear, but the defense did hold Kyle Orton to under 300 yards something most teams this season have not been able to do. But in the end, the Jets made just enough plays to edge the Broncos and got some help from the officials.

The field judge Gary Cavaletto called a desperation throw by Mark Sanchez on 4th and 6 as pass interference on Renaldo Hill, who lost track of the ball as it sailed in the air and while off balance his fingers hit the face mask of Santonio Holmes, who himself was off balance and falling to the ground. With a second life, and just a couple minutes left in the game, the Jets offense took the controversial penalty which gave them first and goal at the two yard line and cashed in. LaDainian Tomlinson took it in untouched, as the Broncos seemingly let him score, and the defense had a chance to stop the Broncos for the win. The suspense finally ended, as the defense recovered a Kyle Orton fumble on a terrible hike by his center as the Broncos were driving on their last possession.

The Dolphins and Patriots both won in close games against good competition, so it still appears the AFC East is going to be a tough battle right to the end of the season. The Jets have a bye week coming up, which should help rest some of the nagging injuries. But for now, the Jets at 5-1 are off to a great start considering their schedule has been awfully tough so far.

New York Football Jets Take Brett Favre Interception to the House

October 12th, 2010 No comments

In a Monday Night Football game that will be remembered for a lot of different reasons, the New York Football Jets intercepted a late fourth quarter pass from Brett Favre and return it 26 yards for the game icing touchdown to beat the Minnesota Vikings 29-20. It was pouring rain at times making offense a bit harder for both teams and keeping the score low until late in the game when all hell broke loose and the excitement really started.

The Jets seemed to dominate the Vikings for the first 3 quarters, stifling Adrian Peterson and making Brett Favre look old and lost. The offense of the Jets couldn’t punch it in the end zone and over and over had to settle for Nick Folk field goals, 5 times. But you knew you couldn’t hold Favre down, and he led a frantic comeback connecting with his 500th career touchdown to newly acquired Randy Moss and then twice to Percy Harvin making it an edge of your seat game. But Mark Sanchez, LT, Shonn Greene and the Jets defense were able to pull this game out with help from a sweet kickoff return from secret weapon Brad Smith.

The Vikings are screwed at 1-3, and now face a matchup with another 1-3 team who were equally hyped as Superbowl favorites, the Dallas Cowboys.
The Jets, on the other hand, go to 4-1, take over the outright lead in the AFC East and have shown the world on a national stage during Monday Night Football that they have weapons on offense, defense and special teams.

Oh, and they have a fantastic coaching staff.

FYI, Mark Sanchez has 8 touchdowns on the year and 0 interceptions. Error free football has led to a huge turnover differential for the Jets which has surely contributed to putting them in the envious position of reeling off 4 consecutive victories. Sanchez was plenty aggressive tonight, firing the ball down field on many occasions showing that he has a relatively powerful young arm.

This was a great win for what appears to be a great team playing in front of a great fan base inside a great stadium.

Buffalo Bills Suck

October 3rd, 2010 No comments

The 38-14 thrashing of the Buffalo Bills by the New York Jets doesn’t say a whole lot about how good the Jets are as a team.

What it does say is that the Buffalo Bills Suck.

Honestly, we already kinda new the Buffalo Bills Suck but the Jets exposed them in every aspect of their suckiness. Their offense was pathetic, with their quarterback scrambling for 74 yards the only positive yardage they seemed to muster all game. Their defense couldn’t come even close to stopping the constantly improving offensive juggernaut which has become the Mark Sanchez led Jets offense. Even the Buffalo Bills special teams sucked.

The NY Jets won 2 games in the division last year, so far we have won all 3 games in the division this year. Mark Sanchez has 8 touchdown passes on the season and 0 interceptions. LT and Shonn Greene both ran for over 100 yards, with LT scoring two touchdowns.  Secret weapon Brad Smith did his usual thing and Dustin Kellar caught two touchdowns for the second week in a row.

The NY Jets blew up the New England Patriots
The NY Jets blew up the Miami Dolphins
The NY Jets blew up the Buffalo Bills

Who in the AFC East is gonna compete? We know the Buffalo Bills Suck with their 0-4 record, and despite giving both Miami and New England a run for their money in games earlier in the season the Bills might end up with 0 wins. With the Dolphins playing the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football on October 4 the contender and pretender in the division will be revealed.

Okay, so the Buffalo Bills suck, but that doesn’t mean this wasn’t a good win for the Jets. The Jets are getting a lot of attention from the media as being one of the premier teams in the AFC. Indianapolis lost to Jacksonville today, and Jacksonville is horrible so Peyton Manning’s squad is no longer as big a bully as it once was. Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Houston appear to be the other NFL cities with quality teams that through a quarter of the season appear to be playoff caliber.

Even though the Buffalo Bills Suck it is still awesome to watch our NY Football Jets play this well in all facets of the game. The offense can move the ball and has plenty of weapons.  Now we get to add Santonio Holmes to the mix, and if you don’t know how good a Superbowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes is than you are in for a pleasant surprise. With Braylon Edwards catching another touchdown today, we will now have two awesome wide receivers. Jerricho Cotchery can move to the slot where he will be more effective and with Dustin Kellar playing the tight end position at the level he is the Jets have one of the best passing attacks in the NFL. Add to that two great running backs, a young improving quarterback, a great defense, a brilliant defensive minded head coach, a talented offensive coordinator in Brian Schottenheimer and some wrinkles like Brad Smith the NY Jets management have put together a title contender.

Today was a nice win even though the Buffalo Bills Suck, but let us focus on a huge game coming up as we have Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings next weekend.

Talk the Talk and Walk the Walk

The Jets 28-14 absolute thrashing of the New England Patriots was awesome.

Tom Brady said he hates the Jets. Guess what, the Jets and their legion of fans hate New England and Tom Brady.
I know I am sick of the

Oh Brady is so perfect, he has the perfect wife, the perfect looks, the perfect passes.

Give me a break you Brady loving media. I know you media types are all upset, with now having to throw out those pre-written articles about the big talking arrogance of the Jets team, the fraternity house coaching style of Rex Ryan and the Mark Sanchez shows so little promise.
You were all wrong. And now you have to write the TRUTH! Can’t handle the TRUTH! Well, here it is for you. The Jets are for real, their quarterback is for real, LT still has plenty of game, the offensive and defensive lines can push people around, the Jets secondary isn’t only Revis Island and the head coach and offensive coordinator have real game plans that give this team a great chance to win every week.

Now that you have thrown away those bury the Jets articles, consider recycling them next time for another team whose headlines catch readers, the Dallas Cowboys.

Now break out the creativity in your thrashing of the New England Patriots whom you were so eager to dub AFC East champions after one lousy week in which they beat a team the Jets knocked out of the playoffs last year. Here are some headlines to start the thought process…
